Several years ago, members of the Tigard-Tualatin School District Foundation recognized that some students were having difficulty thriving in school due to their family's inability to provide basic needs. The Caring Closet was established to help disadvantaged families in the school district by providing clothes, shoes, school supplies, hygiene items, and emergency bedding. This wonderful organization, headed by Director Marilyn Hassmann and served by dozens of hard working volunteers, has given aid to over 1450 children in the current year alone! Unfortunately, this program was in great need of more storage space to process the multitude of donations they receive each week. That’s where we stepped-in to help.
Catalyst Partnerships joined forces with the Tigard-Tualatin School District, the City of Tigard, Tigard Christian Church, Home Depot, a large pool of other corporate partners, and of course lots of volunteers, to build the Caring Closet a 560 square-foot Storage Garage adjacent to their current facility at Tigard High School. It took us about 3 weeks in August, 2010, to help make this dream come true so that more kids & families can be served in the coming school years.
