This project was carried out in conjunction with the City of Mukilteo, WA, and Northshore Christian Church, in the neighboring City of Everett. A currently unused parcel of land, owned by the City, was recently designated for use by the ‘Mukilteo Community Garden’ (a non-profit organization) to provide organic food-growing opportunities to aid people of low income. In the Spring of 2009, volunteers transformed a portion of a field of blackberries and rubble into a lush producing vegetable garden. As a result of this, over 500 square feet of raised beds produced 900 pounds of produce, which was donated to the Mukilteo Food Bank and other charitable organizations this year. This great success opened the path for further development of the program, and Catalyst partnered with the people of Northshore to:
• Clear away the remaining land of blackberries & debris
• Till & prepared all remaining ground for garden beds
• Build new garden beds and fill with soil, approximately doubling their immediate growing capacity
• Help establish new relationships & partnerships

74 VOLUNTEERS worked hard to make this a very successful project!

Thank you to other Partnering Organizations:
• Kiwanis – provided big tent and generator
• Mukilteo Community Garden provided lunch for everyone
• Rubatino Waste coordinated donation deliver & pickup of yard waste bins
• Lowe’s donated $100 of product
