“Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have a multitude of children, many heirs. He will enjoy a long life, and the LORD’S plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of what he has experienced, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of one who is mighty and great, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among those who were sinners. He bore the sins of many and interceded for sinners.” Isaiah 53:10b-12
Friday…the day of the cross, the day of his death and burial. Good Friday, celebrated by centuries of Christians with ceremonies of darkness, solemn and silent. I refuse to celebrate in that fashion, for I know the end of the story. Sunday is coming!
It’s Friday, and Satan dances with a hateful glee, knowing in his black, lying heart that he has won. But Sunday is coming!
It’s Friday, and the grief of God produces earthquakes, darkness, and a storm to quail rebellious Jerusalem and Judea. But Sunday is coming!
It’s Friday, more than two millennia after the crucifixion, and Christendom encircles the earth and embraces more than 3 billion followers of Jesus in this day…Sunday came!
It is Friday, and huge numbers of people around the globe will gather tonight to celebrate…sometimes solemn, sometimes joyous…and always glad. For Sunday is Coming!
“Great Father in Heaven, I would comfort you in this Friday, so that you might know that your sacrifice was not in vain, but you see history as a whole and you regard the billions on this world alone that Jesus will bring into heaven. You are great, and you are awesome! You are our Father and we are your people. Praise your name! I praise you for your mighty acts in Jesus to redeem. I praise you for your irrevocable love and your determination to fill our gatherings this night with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ magnificent name…Amen.”
